People from various walks of life pledged their support in a walk organised by the NGO, Praja Rajakiya Vedike (PRV) here on Wednesday against the Supreme Court judgement upholding Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.

Thirty-three-year-old Nisha Gulur, a transsexual who was a part of the the walk, said: “We want to make the public aware of the problems faced by transgenders, namely why we get into sex trade and begging. ”Another transsexual, 26-year-old Suma, working as a programme associate, said the movement was an effort to show solidarity amongst the sexual minorities opposed to the judgement.

“Even the members of the transgender community need fundamental rights,” she said.
