The Aradhana Saptaha Music Festival of the BTM Cultural Academy will get under way on Monday with celebrated couple — Palanivel and Prabhavathi Palanivel — taking to the ‘mangala vadhya’ nadaswara.
The 21st edition of the festival, which will be on till 27, is a tribute to saint-poets and composers.
It will be inaugurated by G. Raj Narayan of Radel Electronics.
This year, 30 male musicians will perform on six days.
“In previous years, we had women specials and duet specials too. This year, male musicians, mostly young artistes, have been selected,” said K.N. Anantharamaiah, president, BTM Cultural Academy.
The concerts will be dedicated to Purandaradasa, Thyagaraja, Shyama Sastry, Annamacharya, Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar and Dikshitar.
“We will have Modamudi Sudhakar from Vijayawada rendering Annamacharya’s compositions,” says Mr. Anantharamaiah.
Purandaradasa kritis will be rendered by Bellary Raghavendra (January 21 at 5.45 p.m.); Tyagaraja evening by Abhishek Raghuram (January 22 at 5.30 p.m.); Shyama Sastry kritis by Pattabhirama Pandit (January 23 at 5.30 p.m.); Annamacharya by Modamudi Sudhakar (January 24 at 5.30 p.m.); Jayachamaraja Wadiyar’s compositions by Vinay Sharva (January 25 at 5.30 p.m.); and Dikshitar by Saketharaman (January 26 at 5.30 p.m.).
On the final day at 9.30 a.m. there will be a gostigana of Pancharatna kritis.
Four hundred musicians are expected to take part in paying obeisance to Thyagaraja.
The festival will be held at Shree Ramana Maharshi Academy, J.P. Nagar.
