Iron Man 2 (English)
Cast: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke, Samuel L. Jackson
Director: Jon Favreau
This is a superhero movie sequel that is unapologetically bright, busy and glorious fun. “Iron Man 2” has an edgy hero with avowed narcissistic tendencies, a Russian tattooed megalomaniacal villain, lovely ladies, wit, and eye-popping set pieces.
The movie starts after Tony Stark reveals to the world that he is Iron Man. He makes grand, rock-star entrances (to the music of AC/DC) with cheerleaders and whatnots. There is an angry, Russian physicist, Ivan Vanko, who loves his birdie and hates Iron Man. Stark is in some trouble as the machine that keeps his heart ticking is using up palladium too quickly and poisoning his blood. In short he is dying. Stark needs to discover a new element to replace palladium.
The US army wants Stark to hand over the suit to them. There is a rival weapons manufacturer who wants to create his army of iron men. There is Nick Fury watching as Stark comes apart hurtling towards self destruction.
Pepper Potts is made CEO of Stark Industries and Stark has a new assistant in the comely red-headed person of Natalie. All comes alright in the climax which includes a face-off between an army of drones and Stark and best friend Rhodey in Iron Man suits.
For a superhero film, “Iron Man 2” has an embarrassment of Academy Award heavies. From Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Don Cheadle as Rhodey, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Scarlett Johansson as Natalie to Mickey Rourke as angry Ivan. All these great actors take the movie to another level.
The action totally rocks with Vanko's electric appearance as Whiplash on the race track with his kinky costume and his lethal whips being the cherry on the cake.
The film with its many plots and characters might seem too busy, but in these days of shortened attention spans, it is the perfect blockbuster for the multiplexes. Bring on the popcorn.
