MADIKERI: The Madikeri Dasara festivities have ended on a grand note though rain did threaten to disrupt the festivities.

What was seen as a novelty in this year's cultural events relating to Dasara festival was a unique play organised by the HOPES Trust on the pernicious effects of AIDS.

To many it came as a surprise amidst the routine Bharatanatyam, light music and dances set to western music and popular numbers from the Indian cinemas.

The skit shouted out not only the message to contain the spread of the disease but also to resort to preventive measures to keep HIV/AIDS at bay.

The actors in the skit came out in the end with the right message to the people.

Aarti Pramod and Pramod of HOPES Trust have been organising AIDS awareness programmes in association with the Department of Health in Kodagu.

It assumes significance as a number of HIV positive cases have been reported in Kodagu district though the percentage is one of the lowest in the State.
