Balamuri comes alive during weekends
MYSORE: With the blazing heat of the early summer this season taking a toll on the people, it is to the river bank that the youngsters head to beat the heat.
And Balamuri on the road to Krishnaraja Sagar Reservoir is the most popular spot that comes alive during weekends.
Reckoned to be a popular picnic spot as well, Balamuri’s charm is the swift flowing Cauvery and the mini falls surrounded by lush green vegetation with paddy and sugarcane fields visible for miles on end.
While it is common for youngsters to take a swim oblivious of the lurking danger in the form of whirlpools, it has not desisted families from selecting Balamuri as a perfect location to beat the summer heat and opt for a coracle ride.
But if one thought Balamuri drew people only during summer, then think again.
Come monsoon and there is a deluge to witness and savour the cascading falls and the overflowing river in all its beauty which is soothing to the eyes; more so when the discharge from the KRS increases proportionately with the rise in the water level.
Not far from the spot is a bridge which provides an aerial view of the scene around, while the famous Balamuri Ganesha temple is a perennial favourite among the devotees.
