Belgaum: It was a momentous occasion for the KLE (Karnataka Lingayat Education) University on Saturday when it held its first convocation, since its establishment in 2006.

The occasion was graced by the presence of the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission D.P. Agrawal, who delivered a motivating convocation address. Impressed by his address, the gathering, which included educationists, senior and young doctors and faculty members of constituent colleges of the university, gave him a standing ovation.

It was equally celebrative for the 18 candidates who graduated as doctors and won gold medals for securing the highest marks in their subjects.

Adarsh E.S. (Doctor of Medicine in Anaesthesiology) and Shailesh Kumar M. (M.S.- General Surgery) bagged two gold medals each. The other gold medal winners are Suruchi Singla (M.S. in Obstetrics and Gynaecology); Shyam S. (M.D. in Radiology); Bhaskar B.V. (Master of Chirurgie in Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery); Sameer Suresh Ambar (M.D. in Cardiology); Pranav Dorwal and Orneal Gupta [both P.G. Diploma (Medical) in Clinical Pathology]; Vishlesh Arora (M.D. in Dental Surgery, Oral Medicine and Radiology); Vikram N. Vasisht (M.D. in Dental Surgery) and Ganesh Kawduji Derkar, Sarudkar Suhas and Darekar Nilesh Parashram (all three M. Pharm.).KLEU Chancellor Prabhakar B. Kore presided over the function.
