Traffic policemen in the city were touched by the warm gesture as some school students appreciated their efforts to manage the city’s traffic. While some students presented thank you cards and roses, some budding poets handed over poems written specially for the unsung heroes.

The Traffic Police Day was organised by the Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA) in collaboration with the city police.

A role to play

CMCA programme coordinator Susmitha Alva said: “We conduct this programme every year. These men stand on the roads day in and day out to manage the traffic. Apart from thanking them, we want citizens to know that they (citizens) can also play an active role in reducing traffic in the city.”

Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.A. Saleem and CMCA chairperson Yellapa Reddy were present.

As many as 83 CMCA member schools (both government and private) will organise the Traffic Police Day in their respective localities by the end of the month.
