MYSORE: “Our Earth Our People”, a bicycle rally, has been organised by the Odanadi Seva Samsthe and will be flagged off from Mysore on Monday.

Its objective is to create awareness on the need for environmental conservation and elimination of human trafficking. According to the organisers, some of the participants would be victims of abuse who had subsequently been rehabilitated by Odanadi. Some of the victims of human trafficking and those who had been rescued would also participate.

The 35-day rally is expected to cover over 1,000 km and the cyclists will pass through 75 villages. A few cyclists from foreign countries such as Canada, United Kingdom, United States and Belgium will participate.

They will interact with people from different strata of society while understanding their culture.

They will also get a first-hand experience of life in rural India.

The organisers said they hoped to educate nearly 2 lakh people during the course of the rally, which would touch Mandya, Kodagu and Hassan districts.

Saplings to be planted

A significant aspect of the rally was that saplings would be planted by the participants all along the route.
