DAVANGERE: Polling in the gram panchayat elections in Davangere district on Saturday was by and large peaceful. According to sources, 76 per cent polling was recorded in the district. Repoll has been ordered in two booths.

In polling station no. 42 in Belludi village of Harihar taluk, a discrepancy was noticed on the ballot papers with regard to the symbol of a candidate.

Vinobha, the candidate, was given the symbol of arrow, while the ballot papers showed a bow and an arrow. Polling was stopped around 10 a.m. after the mistake was noticed.

Seal deal

At Ajjihalli of Chennagiri taluk, at booth no. 180, officials were seen putting the seal at the bottom of the ballot paper instead of at the top. When a few candidates and their supporters objected to it saying that it would create confusion and the names of a few candidates would not be visible, the officials reported the incident to the Deputy Commissioner who ordered repoll. At Arundi village, a person reportedly managed to take the ballot paper outside the polling station, got photocopies of it and was seen distributing them, asking people to vote for a certain candidate. However, the poll officials refused to acknowledge the incident.
