Seven persons were killed in two separate accidents in the district on Sunday.

Five persons were killed when the tractor in which they were travelling was rammed from behind by a private bus near Oddinakoppa village on the outskirts of Shimoga city on Sunday night.

Yashodamma (55), Vadiyappa (50), Kumar (40), Meena (35) and Velu (16) have been identified as the victims.

All the deceased hail from Oddinakoppa village. They were returning home after performing puja at a temple in Hanagerekatte village. Ten others in the tractor, who were injured, were hospitalised.

The police said preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occurred owing to the negligence of the bus driver. The Tunga Nagar police have registered a case .

In another incident, two persons were killed in a head-on-collision between a vehicle and a bike in Sagar city on Sunday evening. The deceased were identified as Anil (25), resident of Sagar city, and Amrutesh (22), the pillion rider hailing from Haridravati village. The driver of the vehicle is absconding. The Sagar police have registered a case.
