Bijapur: Minister for Minor Irrigation and district in-charge Govind Karjol said that the task force formed to study the encroachment of tanks in the State has revealed that land-grabbers have encroached 648 tanks across the State.

Speaking to presspersons here after reviewing progress of irrigation projects at Hunashyal village in Bijapur district on Tuesday, he said steps would be taken to recover encroached tanks.

A meeting of the officials concerned has been convened on September 25 in Bangalore to discuss the issue, he said.

“Since the tanks and other water sources are government properties, the State Government is committed to clear the encroachment and it would not bow to any pressure”, he added.
