A total of 60 senior citizens, including 35 women from Ravoor village in Chittapur taluk in the district, underwent cataract surgery and and intraocular lenses were implanted for free at the Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital here. These patients were selected for the surgery during a free eye check-up camp organised by the hospital in coordination with the NGO, Hamara Bandan, on December 5.

Medical Superintendent of the hospital S.N. Patil, in a statement here on Wednesday, said 10 out of 60 senior citizens who underwent surgery had lost sight in one eye. Through surgery, their eyesight had been restored.The beneficiaries were provided free stay and food in the hospital for three days. They were discharged on Wednesday.
