: Some of the pre-university colleges in Gulbarga city brought much joy with high pass percentages in the pre-university examination, the results of which were announced on Monday evening.
Although the overall pass percentage went up from 50.23 per cent last year to 54.79 per cent and increased the ranking of the district from 30th position in the State to 29th place this year, the pass percentage of Gulbarga district continued to be dismally low when compared to the performance of other districts in the State.
Sharanabasaveshwar Residential Composite Pre-University College, which had always done well in the past, continued its legacy this year by achieving a pass percentage of 93.5. Out of the 400 students who had appeared for the examination, 374 students passed. As many as 27 per cent of the students (101) passed with distinction, 56.14 per cent (210) passed in first class and the remaining in second and third classes.
Mohd. Naveed Khan of Alsharay Pre-University College secured 96 per cent, scoring 576 marks out of 600, and the college authorities claimed that he was the district topper, which is yet to be confirmed. The college achieved a pass percentage of 91.3 with 25 distinctions and 166 students securing first class.
Abhishek Pawar of Sharnabasaveshwar Residential Composite PU College topped the college scoring 95.5 per cent, followed by Pawan Gangakhed who scored 95.17 and Shubham Padashetty scoring 95 per cent. Abhishek Pawar, Payal J. Mantri and Charan Masali scored cent per cent marks in Physics. In Chemistry as many as nine students scored cent per cent marks, in Mathematics three students scored 100 marks, in Biology and Computer Science two students each scored cent per cent marks, and in Electronics four students scored cent per cent marks.
Smt. Sharanamma S. Diggavi Memorial Education Trust, run by Sri Guru Vidya Peeta, achieved 96 per cent passes in the exams with 191 out of 199 students having passed. Of them 41 students passed with distinction and 125 with first class.
Students of Sarvajna Residential Pre-University Science College brought laurels to the college by scoring 95.58 per cent passes . Out of the 385 students who appeared for the exams, 368 passed, and 52 students passed with distinction and 223 with first class.
Sri Guru Independent Pre-University College of Science also recorded a high pass percentage of 93.53. As many as 579 out of 619 students passed, 83 with distinction and 374 with first class.
