Koppal: As many as 63 sets of nomination papers were filed by 37 persons in all the five Assembly segments of Koppal district on Monday.

Of them, seven nominations were filed from the Koppal segment, four from Gangavathi, 19 from Yelburga, eight from Kustagi and 25 papers from the Kanakagiri segment.

The former Ministers Basavaraj Rayareddy, Nagappa Saloni and Amaregouda Bayyapur were among those who filed their nominations from the Yelburga, Gangavathi and Kustagi segments respectively.

The former MLAs K. Sharanappa of the Janata Dal (Secular) and Doddangouda Patil of the Bharatiya Janata Party filed one set of papers each from the Kustagi segment.

Basavaraj Bilkar, an independent, also filed his papers from the Kustagi constituency.

Both Sangappa Vakkalad, president of the district Bharatiya Janata Party unit, and Andanappa Agadi, the former president of the district party unit, filed their nominations from the Koppal segment. Mr. Sangappa filed two sets of papers, while Mr. Agadi filed one.

The former MLA K. Basaraj Hitnal of the Congress and J.M. Veerasanghaih filed one set of nominations each from the Koppal segment. Mallikarjuna Patil and Kariyanna Tangati, both independents, also filed one set of nominations each from Koppal.

Paranna Munavalli of the BJP filed his papers from the Gangavathi segment, while two independents Syed Ismail Khadri and Veeranna Daggi also filed papers from the constituency. Eshanna Gulagannavar of the BJP, Amaragundappa Meti and C.S. Police Patil of the JD(S), and Rudrappa Badagi, an independent, filed their papers from Yelburga. The Kanakagiri segment received the maximum of 25 nominations from 18 persons.
