`The final award of the tribunal is unreasonable and unscientific'

SHIMOGA: Members of over thirty local organisations stood across the river Tunga, touching both ends of it, behind the Ramanna Shetty Park here on Thursday under the aegis of the Vikasa Ranga to protest against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.

President of the District Blood Donors' Federation and psychiatrist K.A. Ashok Pai, who addressed the gathering, termed the final award of the tribunal as unreasonable and unscientific.

Ground reality

He said the tribunal has not assessed the ground reality of the availability of water correctly before taking the decision.

Gazette notification

President of the District Industries Association Anantharamaih said the Centre should not be allowed to issue the gazette notification on the final award of the tribunal, as Karnataka could not accept the award under any circumstance.

President of the Vikas Rang K.C. Prabhakar led the demonstration.

Participants

Organisations such as the District Sangeet Kala Academy, Tarunodaya Sanskrit Seva Samsthe, Sahasa Academy, Daivagnya Youth Association, Om Sai Seva Samiti, Milap Cultural Forum, Vasavi Yuva Jana Sangh Vasavi Vidyalaya, Al Hind Society, Vasavi Mahajana Samiti, Pratibha Rang and Friends Centre participated in the demonstration.

Vice-president of the Vikasa Ranga K. Vasudevachar, A.N. Vijayendra Rao of the Tarunodaya Sanskrit Samsthe, secretary of the Vikas Rang S.S. Vagish, L. Shashidhar, Shanta S. Shetty and Om Ganesh also took part in the protest.

Secretary of the Vasavi Vidyalaya S.K. Seshachala proposed a vote of thanks.
