The Karnataka Bala Vikas Academy, in association with the Department of Public Instruction, will organise “Makkala Habba” on the JSS School campus here on Saturday. KBA chairman Mahesh Tenginkai told presspersons here on Thursday that nearly 5,000 children from across the district would participate. Minister for Women and Child Development Kalakappa G. Bandi will inaugurate the event.
A procession would be taken out from the Government School No. 9 in Saraswatpur to the venue prior to the inaugural function.
NCC cadets, Seva Dal and Scouts and Guides would be part of the procession, he said. Twenty-eight cultural troupes would give a performance. Several folk troupes from south Karnataka too would participate and help children understand the culture of other regions. The event would also focus on creating awareness on developing scientific temper and patriotism among children, and against superstition, Mr. Tenginkai said.
KBA is organising the festival for the second consecutive year. Similar events would be held in other parts of the State. Last year, one lakh children participated in the event, he said.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services would present a fire show for children. The programmes would be held on three stages. KBA has arranged for 14 buses to provide free transportation for those attending the event, Mr. Tenginkai added.
