As many as 235 students and 19 institutions received scholarships and awards from Yenepoya University here on Monday.

Students hailing from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts received the Academic Excellence Award and scholarships which ranged between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 10,000 for securing high percentage of marks in SSLC, PU, B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., B.B.M., B.Ed. and BCA examinations.

Vice-Chancellor of the university P. Chandramohan said that research showed intelligence was not a single entity but there were different kinds of it. U.T. Khader, MLA, said society had to introspect whether education being imparted to children included social values.

Award winners include children of the employees of Yenepoya group. The group sponsors five students each in medical, dental, nursing and physiotherapy courses in its colleges. The total cost of these sponsorships is around Rs. 163 lakh. According to a press release, the awards were worth around Rs. 8.43 lakh this year.
