Twenty-two autorickshaws were destroyed in a fire at Beedi Colony, Azeez Sait Nagar, here early on Wednesday.

The cause of the fire is not known. It is said the fire broke out in an auto shed, where autorickshaw owners park vehicles for the night. Local people made an unsuccessful attempt to douse the flames. Fire-fighters from Bannimantap brought the fire under control.

Senior police officials visited the spot.

The Udayagiri police have registered a case.
