HASSAN: The Union Government has sanctioned Rs. 26 crore for building 1,000 houses each in Hassan and Holenarsipura taluks for poor people, said the former Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna here on Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that each of the houses would be built at a cost of Rs. 1.30 lakh and work would begin soon.

Commenting on Hassan district in-charge Minister Arvind Limbavali’s statement that the Government did not know the category under which compensation should be given to farmers who have suffered potato crop loss,

Mr. Revanna said the Minister should resign for passing such a statement.

Mr. Revanna also criticised Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa for not addressing farmers’ problems.

Farmers had lost Rs. 300 crore worth potato crop to blight caused due to heavy rains.

But Mr. Yeddyurappa had not taken any steps to compensate the farmers.

He added that Mr. Yeddyurappa had not even replied to the letters that the former Prime Minister Deve Gowda had written to him about farmers suffering due to potato crop loss.
