MYSORE: At least 20 huts were destroyed in a fire that broke out in a slum in Gokulam locality in Mysore on Friday.
The fire which was first noticed in a hut, spread to other huts within a few minutes. Household articles such as wooden cots and utensils were charred. According to eye-witnesses, fire was noticed at noon in a hut. The occupant had locked the hut from outside after keeping water for boiling. Before the fire services personnel could reach the spot, the fire had destroyed as many as 20 huts. However, they prevented the fire from spreading to nearby huts. Over 300 poor people are living in around 80 huts in the slum for 15 years.
