Following the inclement weather and sudden rise in water level witnessed at the coastal belt of Canacona taluk of south Goa early on Monday, nearly 20 canoes with fishing nets and other equipment were washed away in the sea.

Officials of the State Government who visited the area on Monday estimated the loss at approximately Rs.1 crore. Unseasonable showers swept different parts of the State on Monday affecting normal life. In the city, the IFFI delegates were very surprised by the sudden showers which continued there for over an hour in the evening.

Meanwhile, the Goa Meteorological Laboratory issued an advisory to all fishermen and trawlers at sea to refrain from venturing into the sea for the next 72 hours.
