Medals were presented to recruits who excelled in the training

Brigadier C.K. Ramesh, Commandant, Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC), called upon young soldiers to protect nation's integrity even at the cost of their lives.

He was addressing a function organised along with the attestation parade for a batch of 168 recruits of Group 3/11 at the Talekar Drill on the MLIRC campus on Saturday.

He said the soldiers who would be soon be going to different parts of the country to serve the nation are required to play a very important role in protecting not only the borders but its integrity too.

After reviewing the impressive parade, which was followed by an oath taking ceremony, Brig. Ramesh reminded the soldiers of their proud regimental heritage. He expressed confidence that their training in the regimental centre would stand them in good stead in all their future assignments.

Rect. Nimonkar Manoj commanded the parade with the Parade Adjutant Major Yogesh Dhoomal.

The reviewing officer gave away various medals to recruits excelling in different spheres of training at the end of the parade.

The Naik Yashwant Ghadge Medal, Victoria Cross Medal, Hofe Trophy, Colonel R.D. Nikam Trophy and cash prize for ‘best recruit' (over all best) was awarded to Amol Makare.

Major S.S. Brar Medal and trophy for the best recruit in physical training was presented to Ashok Jadhav.

Col. N.J. Nair, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra Medal and Trophy for the best recruit in field craft training was presented to Dipak Pokharkar.

Honorary Captain Keshav Rao Talekar Medal and Trophy for the best recruit in drill was given to Nimonkar Manoj.

Sucha Singh Memorial Cup and Medal for the best recruit in outdoor activities was given to Kendre Sharad.

And, Amit Metange was awarded Naik Namdev Jadhav Victoria Cross Medal and Firing Trophy for his performance in the firing category.

A host of army officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, other ranks and families of the newly attested recruits were among those who were present to witness the attestation parade.
