The district water and sanitation committee has approved the construction of toilets in 150 schools and 100 anganwadis in the district under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan scheme during the current financial year.

Speaking at the Water and Sanitation committee meeting here on Friday, Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat Executive Officer Kenchannanavar said Konchavaram village in Chincholi taluk had been selected for the Nirmal Gram Puraskar for 2012–13, and the proposal had been sent to the Union government.

‘Adhere to norms’

The officer directed the taluk panchayat officials of Chincholi to ensure that all norms prescribed for the Nirmal Gram Puraskar were adhered to at Konchavaram. The central team will inspect the village before finalising the list of villages selected for the Nirmal Gram Puraskar.

In the current year, out of the targeted construction of 42,000 individual toilets in Gulbarga district, 3,713 toilets have been constructed so far.
