MYSORE: As many as 15 former Ministers, including two former Union Ministers, are contesting in Assembly constituencies in the Cauvery Basin which plays an important role in State politics.

Of the 15, 10 switched loyalties for various reasons, including denial of ticket.

It is significant that 11 candidates were Ministers during the Janata Parivar governance in the State.

The former Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah is now entering the fray from the new Varuna segment, as a result of the division of the Chamundeswari Assembly segment in the delimitation exercise.

The former Minister, H.C. Mahadevappa, who went with Mr. Siddaramaiah, when the latter was expelled from the Janata Dal (Secular), is contesting from T. Narsipur constituency.

Another former Minister and follower of Siddaramaiah, K. Venkatesh, is contesting from the Piriyapatna constituency.

G.T. Deve Gowda, who was the Cooperative Minister in the previous coalition Government, is contesting from his native Hunsur constituency on the BJP ticket.

M. Mahadev, who was a Minister in S.M. Krishna’s Cabinet and has joined the BJP, is contesting from the Chamarajanagar Assembly segment.

The former Minister, D.T. Jayakumar, is contesting from the Chamundeshwari Assembly segment as a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate because of change in reservation of Nanjangud constituency, which he represented in 1985, 1994 and 2004. H.S. Mahadeva Prasad, who supported M.P. Prakash when the latter quit the Janata Dal (S), is contesting from the Gundlupet constituency on the Congress ticket. Adagur H. Vishwanath is contesting from the K.R. Nagar constituency.

Another former Minister, Tanveer Sait, is contesting from Narasimharaja constituency.

N. Chaluvarayaswamy is in the fray in Nagamangala constituency.

A former Minister and Speaker, Krishna, is contesting as a Janata Dal (S) candidate in K.R. Pet constituency.

B. Somashekar, president of the Janata Dal (U), is testing his luck in the Malavalli Assembly segment.

Mr. Srinivasa Prasad, who was away from State politics for some time and joined the Congress recently, is contesting from the Nanjangud (reserved) constituency.

The former MP, M.H. Ambareesh, who resigned as Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, is contesting from Srirangapatna Assembly segment.

Another former Minister, B.A. Jivijaya, is contesting from Madikeri.

The former Ministers, M. Shivanna (H.D. Kote), M.S. Atmananda (Mandya), Suma Vasanth (Virajpet) and M.M. Nanaiah (Madikeri), have been denied ticket.
