Superintendent of Police Raman Gupta has said that 12 persons were arrested in connection with the murder of Mental Seena, a rowdy sheeter.

Mr. Gupta told presspersons here on Tuesday that acting on a tip-off, the police raided a house where the accused had taken shelter at Bommanakatte area in the city and nabbed them.

The names of the arrested were given as Lokesha, Ajay Kumar, Manjunatha, Deepak J., Vinay, Prathap, Ankush, Chethan, Maruti, Annappa, Sandeep, and Kantharaj. All the arrested are residents of the city. He said that among the arrested, four were students. The police have seized explosives and two motorcycles from the arrested. He said that 22 persons were involved in the murder.

It is said that Seena was involved in extortion activities. To avenge the murder of his brother, Lokesh along with some of the youths from whom Seena had extorted money attacked the later when he was offering prayer at Doddamma Jaladurgamma temple in the city on August 17, and killed him. A special police team had been formed to arrest the remaining culprits, he said.

To a question, he advised the people to get the golden ornaments and other valuables they possess insured.
