BIDAR: Twelve acres of land on survey No. 21 owned by the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Mailoor village in Bidar taluk will be transferred to the Government Polytechnic here for construction of a building for the polytechnic.

The polytechnic and the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS) are located on the same premises. As per the guidelines of the Medical Council of India (MCI), 25 acres of land is needed to set up a new medical college. The land requirement for BRIMS necessitated shifting of the polytechnic to a new premise.

Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta told The Hindu that he had received a letter from the Department of Labour (Employment and Training) for transfer of land to the polytechnic.

According to the letter, 34 acres and 15 guntas of land is available with the ITI of which, 12 acres will be transferred to the polytechnic.

Vijaykumar Sonare, district unit president of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), said members of SFI had organised agitations to get the land transferred.
