KARWAR: Nagaraj Shetty, Minister for Fisheries, said here on Friday that people of the State were convinced that the coalition government led by H.D. Kumaraswamy would protect their interests. Talking to presspersons he said the Congress was under the illusion that the Government would fall after Chamundeshwari byelection.

He said the Government had collected Rs. 4,000 crore as additional revenue this year. Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa had planned programmes to utilise Rs. 2,000 crore of it for development and welfare activities.

He said the Government proposed to build 10,000 houses under the Matsyashraya scheme for fishermen in the State. Already 2,500 houses had been built. The remaining houses would be completed before the end of this financial year.

He said siltation near the fisheries ports had been posing a big problem. The Government was keen to take up dredging activities in the ports and it was proposed to procure a dredger. He had already spoken to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister in this regard. Tenders would be invited shortly.
