Congress announces candidate for Kadapa chairman post
KADAPA: The CPI(M) has given an ultimatum to the Congress to initiate a dialogue for ZPTC and MPTC seat adjustments till Tuesday afternoon.
CPI(M) district secretary B. Narayana alleged at a press conference here on Sunday that response from the Congress for a seat pact was lukewarm. If Congress adopted dilatory tactics and plotted to put the CPI(M) at a loss, the party would initiate discussions with the Telugu Desam Party, he warned.
The party Secretariat decided to have an understanding with any other political party, other than the Congress and the BJP, if it cannot sail with the Congress in the panchayat raj elections, he said.
Meanwhile, a high-power committee of Kadapa district Congress declared Pulivendula ZPTC member Devireddy Jyothi Reddy as official candidate for Kadapa Zilla Parishad chairmanship, reserved for OC women.Rajya Sabha member and APCC observer Nandi Yellaiah and AICC member J. Mallik announced the candidature of Ms. Jyothi Reddy at a news conference here.
Mr. Nararyana said that the CPI(M) was keen on contesting six ZPTC seats and 60 MPTC seats, he said.
It preferred to contest Obulavaripalle, Siddhavatam, Atlur, Gopavaram, Brahmamgari Matham and Yerraguntla, he said.
It was also prepared to contest independently if the situation warranted, Mr. Narayana stated. The party would try for an understanding with the CPI unless the latter decided to sail with the Congress. The party would hold discussions with the CPI if it snapped ties with the Congress in the polls, he said.
The Congress was executing irrigation projects with commitment, but neglecting setting up of industries and generation of employment, Mr. Narayana alleged. It failed to ensure remunerative price for agricultural produce and was cutting down subsidies for Dalits and BCs, he alleged.
Party district Secretariat member C. Babu also took part.
