YV varsity scam: ex-registrar held

Sleuths belonging to the Crime Investigating Department (CID) arrested the former Registrar and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of the Yogi Vemana University, Kadapa, Y. Venkatrami Reddy, the Deputy E.E of SV University, Madanmohan Reddy and its Assistant Engineer, Hidayathulla, for alleged financial and administrative irregularities.

According to Damodar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (CID), the department which took up investigation of the case at the instance of the High Court has found prima facie evidence against the three pointing to their alleged acts of omissions and commissions in awarding of works, observance of the established government norms and procedures in the utilisation of funds, etc. The works on the YV University campus were also found to be in wanting in quality, he said.

The DIG also pointed out that all the three have been arrested and produced before the designated court for the CID cases at Chittoor which remanded them to judicial custody on Thursday. The investigation has just begun and is still in its preliminary stages, he said and added that it would go further to ferret out the ‘clinching evidences’ against all those involved in the case.

Damodar said though the three officials were at present arrested under various sections of the IPC, provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act also would be invoked against them at the appropriate stage as they are all ‘public servants’.

Giving further details, the DIG said the former Vice-Chancellor of the S.V. University, S.Jayarama Reddy whom the government had appointed as the in-charge V-C of the Yogi Vemana University, Kadapa, in 2006-07, for the purpose of overseeing the construction of the new campus, had in-turn selected the three officials and put them in-charge of the works.
