Acharya Nagarjuna University Vice-Chancellor Y. Haragopal Reddy led the way in paying tributes to former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy at two functions marking the late leader's 61st birthday on Thursday.
At a function organised by National Students Union of India (NSUI), ANU unit, Dr. Haragopal Reddy said that YSR was one of the few visionaries who had brought about a series of reforms in educational sector aimed at expanding access to quality education.
Whether it was establishing Universities in each district, or introducing fee reimbursement scheme in professional colleges or setting up of Jawahar Knowledge Centres in degree colleges, the schemes have benefited huge number of students from weaker sections.
The memory of YSR would be always alive on the University Campus as the University College of Engineering and Technology was named after him, he added.
The V-C later cut a cake and garlanded the portrait of YSR.
Dr. Reddy also took part in meetings organised by INTUC and Jagan Yuva Sena.
Rector K. Viyanna Rao, University College Principal C.N. Brahmanandam and Officer on Special Duty N. Samuyelu were also present.
