The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has warned of an agitation if the State government goes ahead with its decision to increase electricity tariffs.

The party has reminded the government of the distress caused to farmers and common public when the Telugu Desam government increased the tariff and imposed four to eight hours of power cuts, the YSRCP official spokesman Bajireddy Goverdhan stated in a press release. He said the government was unable to tackle the power crisis even before the onset of summer. It had neither made any provision in the recent budget to improve the power generation nor taken any initiative to bridge the demand-supply gap by purchasing power from neighbouring States.

In a separate release, the YSR Congress targeted CPI State secretary K. Narayana for what it described as uncharitable remarks by him against it. Mr. Narayana had said in an interview to a daily that YSR Congress Party was born out of corruption and that it had no ideology or basis. These remarks were highly objectionable, another spokesman of YSRCP Gattu Ramachandra Rao said.

Joint struggles

He recalled that YSR Congress Party and the CPI had jointly taken up several struggles against the policies of the TDP in the past, but the Left party appeared to have suddenly changed its stand. Mr. Narayana's comment suggested that he too had joined the ‘bandwagon' that resorted to false propaganda against YSRCP president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.
