PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana on Tuesday said that the onus of disproving that corruption was rampant during former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s tenure was on his family members and the Congress.

Mr. Satyanarayana said that with the passing away of Dr. Reddy, the responsibility to prove that there was no corruption during his regime was on the family before a court.

There was no point in arguing that the allegations were false or politically motivated. Since Dr. Reddy belonged to the Congress, it was also for the party to own up the charges if they were proved in a court.

He said that after a tour of Karnataka he was confident that the Congress would come to power there decimating BJP and BSR Congress floated by Gali Janardhan Reddy’s protégé, as people were fed up with corruption and misrule. He anticipated a similar situation in the 2014 elections when YSR Congress would meet the fate of BSR.

BSR Congress candidates had won with high margins in the Assembly by-election there and had got wiped out in the local body elections held recently. “A similar lesson will be taught to the YSR Congress here. After all, Gali Janardhan Reddy had described YSR Congress MP Jaganmohan Reddy as his brother.”

Responding to a question, Mr. Satyanarayana made it clear that the Minister of State for Railways K. Suryaprakash Reddy’s comment that Jagan would continue to be in jail till he merges his party with the Congress was his personal view. The party had nothing to do with his remarks, he clarified. The party feels that the CBI is an independent investigative agency and it is merely doing its job of bringing the corrupt to book.
