YSR Congress ticket aspirants are leaving no stone unturned to please YSR Congress leader Y.S. Sharmila and senior leader Y.V. Subba Reddy, with the reports spreading that the party is likely to shortlist the candidates within a month. The party has already appointed two leaders in-charges for each Assembly constituency but it had not given the responsibility to any leader as far as Srikakulam Parliamentary segment is concerned.

Mrs. Sharmila who is currently continuing her ‘Maro Praja Prasthanam’ in Srikakulam district is reportedly assessing the party situation in the district where the YSR Congress could not show good results in the phase-I elections. The party leaders stepped up pressure on the high command to announce MP candidate as early as possible so that they would take on Kinjarapu Rammohan (TDP) and Killi Kruprani (Congress) who are likely to be candidates for the respective parties.

According to sources, Itchapuram, former MLA Piriya Sairaj, the party senior leader Hanumanthu Kirankumar, and former Narasannapeta MLA Dharmana Krishnadas are reportedly showing interest to contest for the Parliamentary constituency. Names of former DGP H.J. Dora and Padmasri awardee and senior physician Kutikuppala Surya Rao are also being heard for the MP seat.

However, both of them are not in YSR Congress and did not evince interest publicly. Mr.Sairaj, who won from Itchapuram on TDP ticket in 2009 elections, has reportedly told the party high command that he was ready either for Assembly or Parliamentary seat. His confidants say that service activities under Uddanam Foundation, fight against power plants and backing from Kalinga Community would help Mr. Sairaj to get MP seat easily.

Mr. Kirankumar, a close relative of former MP Kaniti Viswanatham, hoped that he would be given importance as he developed contacts in all seven Assembly segments, which come under Srikakulam Parliamentary seat.

Mr. Krishnadas is also insisting for the MP seat while asking the party to allocate Narasannapeta Assembly seat to his wife Padmapriya who is district convenor of the party. Mr. Krishnadas opponents say he could win Narasannapeta by-election with a thin margin despite a strong wave for YSR congress in the last year.
