Candidates backed by YSR Congress continued to maintain a clear lead in the second phase of the gram panchayat elections by winning 126 sarpanch posts out of 258 panchayats that went to polls in 17 mandals in Rajampet revenue division.

Congress supporters won in 80 panchayats followed by Telugu Desam Party sympathisers in 43 panchayats.

Eight elected sarpanches were neutral. In the polling held for 206 panchayats on Saturday, the YSRC supporters won in 104 panchayats, Congress in 65 and TDP in 32 and four in others. In 52 panchayats decided unanimously in the second phase, the YSRC won in 22, Congress in 15, TDP in 11 and four in others.

A re-poll was ordered in T. Kammapalle panchayat in Pullampet mandal on July 31. People boycotted elections in T. Kammapalle and complained to the observer that Pullampet Sub-Inspector threatened them with a revolver and that the people of Eguvareddipalle had prevented voters of Balijapalle from entering the village to cast votes.
