HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, reiterated his government’s commitment to work for all- round inclusive development of the capital where the needs and aspirations of urban poor are duly taken care of.
Poverty was not restricted to rural areas and there are many poor people in cities and towns too and it is the responsibility of the governments to not only provide them with basic amenities but also housing and employment opportunities, he said at an assets’ distribution function organised by the GHMC on the last day of his city tour.
Other than making provision for drinking water, drainage network, storm water drains, streetlights, preventing urban flooding and self-employment schemes were essential, he said. Housing was another critical area and the government had either built or was taking up construction of 90,000 houses for the weaker sections.Ministers A. Ramnarayan Reddy (Municipal Administration), M. Mukesh (B.C. Welfare), Sabitha Indra Reddy (Home), D. Nagender (Health), Anjan Kumar Yadav M.P. and senior officials were present.
