The arrest of N. Sunil Reddy suddenly by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Emaar township case on Tuesday received a sharp reaction from YSR Congress party as its followers rushed to court to express solidarity with him when he was produced there the next day.

The party's youth wing president Putta Pratap Reddy who led the crowd said what stung them most was the sudden emergence of Mr. Sunil Reddy in the cases against YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy. The party did not react when Mr. Jagan's aide V. Vijay Sai Reddy was arrested because he was regularly interrogated by the CBI and the development came as no surprise.

“We were clueless till Wednesday on what basis Mr. Sunil Reddy was picked up by CBI. We decided to find out for ourselves what went wrong and went to the court”, Mr. Pratap Reddy said. He denied Mr. Sunil Reddy ever dabbled in party affairs. The latter was known in party circles as a distant relative of YSR family.

The arrest of Mr. Vijay Sai Reddy last month and Mr. Sunil Reddy now has turned the attention on the noose getting closer to Mr. Jagan, party leaders added. Mr. Sunil Reddy's father Sangi Reddy was related to C.V. Subba Reddy, a brother-in-law of YSR.

He was said to be a key contact for people wanting to meet Mr. Jagan.

He was also a director of five companies owned by Mr. Jagan and another company, which invested heavily in Mr. Jagan owned Jagati publications.
