A salesgirl sustained eight stab wounds after a youth attacked her with a pair of scissors for spurning his marriage proposal.
Twenty-two-year-old Shanti, who sustained injuries on her hands and back, was admitted to a private hospital near her residence at Nagole where her condition was said to be stable, the police said.
ACP (L.B. Nagar) J. Amarender Reddy said the accused, Kalyan, came to Shanti’s house in the morning and picked up an argument with her mother Indira for opposing his marriage proposal.
An altercation took place between them and in a fit of rage Kalyan attacked Indira with a pair of scissors resulting in a head injury.
Shanti then came to her mother’s rescue and chided Kalyan.
Enraged over this, he attacked Shanti and escaped from the spot.
Rushed to hospital
Neighbours rushed her to a private hospital where she was recuperating, the ACP said.
According to the ACP, Kalyan, a salesman in a private shop at Dilsukhnagar, developed friendship with Shanti, working in a jewellery shop in the same locality.
Despite rejecting his marriage proposal, he continued to pester her and she had even lodged two complaints with the L.B. Nagar police a few months ago.
Her family, however, withdrew the complaints after talking to Kalyan’s parents.
The police registered a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC against the accused Kalyan and arrested him.
