A youth was arrested on the charge of threatening to assault a woman by calling on her mobile phone and through e-mails.
K. Bhargav (24), the accused hailing from AC Nagar in Nellore district, was arrested by Cyber Crime Inspector B.V. Venkateswara Rao, SI Ramesh, and their team on Wednesday. A mobile phone and a tab used by the accused were seized.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (L&O) P. Viswa Prasad said the victim, who is a resident of Madhavadhara, had lodged a complaint with the Kancharapalem police that her distant relative Bhargav was making threat calls and sending defamatory messages to her mobile. The accused had sent e-mails threatening to assault her by throwing acid on her face if she failed to love him.
The accused had also created several Facebook accounts under different names similar to the victim’s name with the intention of insulting her modesty. The case was subsequently transferred to the Cyber Crime Investigation Cell. Mr. Viswa Prasad said the accused was traced by the police at Jharkhand but managed to give them the slip. He was subsequently traced at Nellore and put on a train to Visakhapatnam but Bhagav’s friend Karthik Reddy attacked the police in a bid to release him. Karthik was also taken into custody.
Bhargav would be produced before the III Metropolitan Magistrate and a case has been filed against Karthik for assaulting the police. This case would be transferred to the concerned police station in Nellore district.
