HYDERABAD: APCC president K. Keshava Rao on Tuesday defended Nizamabad MP Madhu Yashki's controversial remarks, saying he was explaining the party's stand on Telangana at various meetings.

Asked as to what action the party was contemplating against the MP, Dr. Rao said at a press conference here that he had asked the MP to refrain from issuing controversial statements. Mr. Yashki had written to him, explaining the circumstances under which he made the remarks at a meeting at Palvancha in Khammam recently.

"He was only explaining the party stand on Telangana at meetings organised by other parties and organisations," he said, adding Mr. Yashki had clarified that he had not been faulted by the party high command on the issue.

The APCC president condemned the alleged manhandling of Vijayawada Mayor Mallika Begum by corporators and advised them to behave.
