Members of the Andhra Pradesh State Yanadi Samakya on Friday alleged that some landlords had encroached lands allotted by the government to the Yanadi community in Nellore district.
Speaking to newsmen here, samakya State president Tupakula Munemmasaid the government had distributed lands to the Yanadi community in 46 mandals in the district.
But, many of the lands were in the possession of landlords and the genuine land owners (Yanadis) were struggling hard to make both ends meet every day, she said.
Though an ITDA was set up for the uplift of Yanadis in the district, the officials were least bothered about the welfare of the tribal people, she alleged and urged the government to intervene and do justice for the Scheduled Tribes in the district.
Samakya State secretary Kanuru Santhi said the Samakya would launch an agitation for return of the lands.
The Yanadi community leaders will identify land owners in each village and start a legal battle to take the lands back.
Yanadi Samakya State honorary president Sk.Basheer and joint secretary Dasari Sundaram were present at the press conference.
