Woman constable Deepa tries her hand at wrestling and emerges winner
For B. Deepa, a constable at women’s police station in Tirupati Urban District, the 47th A.P. State Police Sports and Games Meet held at Visakhapatnam turned out to be a defining moment.
Since her appointment in 2010, Ms. Deepa channelled her inclination towards sports by taking part in almost every competition conducted by the Police Department, securing prizes in throw-based games and athletics.
But, during the recent sports meet, she went a bit further and took part in wrestling under the 63 kg division. “Winners from the department games organised at Tirupati were sent to Anantapur Police Range for training for the State-level sports meet. Fascinated by wrestling, I enrolled myself for it and secured a gold medal subsequently,” she said, beaming with pride.
Now, with her eyes set on the future of her sports career, Ms. Deepa oscillates between her love towards throw-based games and wrestling.
“I am good at shot put, javelin and discus throw, but wrestling is something new and I need more practice to excel in my new endeavour,” she maintained.
Ms. Deepa further said that few hours earmarked for practice, coupled with directions from coaches specific to the game, would help the personnel develop interest in sports, to achieve their dreams.
