Importance of feeding child with mother's milk for up to two years highlighted

  • Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit holds the celebrations

    VISAKHAPATNAM: The world breast-feeding week was celebrated from August 1 to 7 in various parts of the city by the Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit (CFNEU), coming under the Food and Nutrition Board of the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.

    The Department of Women's Development and Child Welfare of the State Government joined the celebrations to highlight the importance of feeding children with mother's milk for up to two years. The programme also stressed that children could be given wheat kichidi, ragi laddu, wheat payasam and other nutritious supplements so as to build them strong and energetic. Government women's development and child welfare department regional deputy director B Sowbhagyalakshmi, project director of district women and child development agency A.E. Roberts, demonstration officer of CFNEU M.R. Vekateswarulu and assistant project director V. Sunanda participated in the valedictory function.
