Sanitation has been badly hit at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences-Srikakulam due to the indefinite strike of the sanitation workers who allege that they did not receive salaries for the last few months.
Patients fear that diseases would spread due to poor sanitation on the hospital premises.
RIMS officials say they are helpless as the workers’ wages have to be cleared by the Srinivasa Outsourcing Services.
According to them, the outsourcing agency has not cleared the wages stating that RIMS has not paid its dues. However, according to RIMS authorities, they recently sent a cheque of Rs. 2.8 lakh as part of the agreement. RIMS Director T. Jayaraj has told newsmen that the agency has been directed to immediately pay wages so that the agitating workers will resume duties.
