Local MLA C. K. Babu on Thursday said works on the Kandaleru project with an outlay of Rs.900 crore aimed at solving the drinking water problem in Chittoor, would be started soon.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said the primary survey for the project had been completed.

Study complete

The government had entrusted the task to Pohori Consultany, Kolkata-based firm, which studied the outlay, pipeline work, and environmental aspects of the project and submitted a report to the government for further action.

According to estimates nearly six to seven pumping stations would set up on the pipeline from Kandaleru to Chittoor. Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy would lay the foundation stone for the project next month.

Mr. Reddy would also inaugurate the new RTO office building, vehicle inspection track at Reddigunta, MSR Town Hall, and a fountain near MSR Municipal Complex, the MLA said.
