Three women of a family died in a suicide pact at Regadi Ghanapur village of Chevella mandal in Ranga Reddy district, 45 km from here, in the early hours of Thursday, the police said.

In a suicide note purportedly written by them, Manemma, 40, and her daughters, Sumalata, 19, and Umalata, 17, stated that harassment by their family head, K. Narsimha, 45, drove them to resort to the extreme step. A case of abetment to suicide was registered against Narsimha, Chevella Sub-Inspector, Ch. Saidi Reddy, said.

Owner of one acre of land, Narsimha was jobless and an alcoholic. He has three daughters and a son. The third daughter, Swarnalata, is studying 10 {+t} {+h} class and residing in a government hostel. His son, Yadaiah, completed Intermediate and was unemployed. “Our father is responsible for our death. He used to abuse us in drunken condition and beat up my mother and us,” the two daughters wrote in the note.

They alleged that he even used to snatch whatever small amounts of money they had earned by working as labourers and believed death was the only way they could escape from him, the SI said. The three consumed poison.
