A woman slit the throat of her two daughters killing the younger one and tried to end her life at Jeedimetla on Tuesday after quarrelling with her husband over attending a function, the police said.
Death was instant for nine-month-old Devi Priya, while her mother, Kalavathi, 40, and elder sister, Maheswari, 3, are recuperating at a corporate hospital. The woman's husband, Krishna Reddy, is a mechanic with a factory in Papireddynagar of Jagadgirigutta.
Kalavathi and her husband had an argument on Sunday when the latter said he wanted to go to a function in his sister's house with his family. “It seems Reddy's sister didn't attend his house-warming ceremony held recently.
Apparently angered over this, Kalavathi wanted to keep off the function in her sister-in-law's house,” the Balanagar ACP, S. Damodar, said.
Reddy attended the function at his sister's house in the evening, in spite of opposition from his wife.
The next day was Reddy's day off and the couple fought over the matter again.
Soon after Reddy left for the factory on Tuesday morning, Kalavathi slashed the throat of her two daughters with a razor blade and tried to kill herself in a similar fashion.
Reddy returned home for lunch only to see the gory site of all three family members lying in a pool of blood.
He rushed them to a local hospital where doctors declared Devi Priya brought dead.
A case of murder and attempt to murder was registered against Kalavathi.
