VIJAYAWADA: A 30-year-old woman was strangled to death in broad daylight at her house in the sixth line of Pasuputhota at Madhura Nagar under Satyanarayanapuram police station limits, on Wednesday. A gold chain and earrings were found missing, while the almirah in her house lay open with keys. As her husband was out of station, the value of the stolen property is yet to be estimated. The deceased, Kella Bharathi, was residing in a rented house in Pasuputhota along with her husband Tirupathi Rao, a lorry driver, daughter Usha (7) and son Chandu (5). Tirupathi Rao left for Bihar on Saturday as part of his job.

After sending children to school on Wednesday morning, Bharathi went to her neighbour's house and helped them in some domestic chores. Her neighbours said they last saw her around 10 a.m. when she returned home for preparing lunch. One of the neighbours, Alivelu, came to her house around 12 noon, and found Bharathi's body lying on bed. As the door was unbolted, Alivelu entered the house and alerted other neighbours.

Deputy Commissioner of Police U.V.S. Raju visited the spot. The Satyanarayanapuram police sent the body for a post-mortem.
