HYDERABAD: A housewife, Padma, 27, ended her life by hanging to the ceiling fan after smothering to death her two children - Kartikeya, 3, and Arshit, 13 months, in their house at Gafoor Colony of Banjara Hills on Thursday, the police said.

A suicide note and words on the wall with ‘kumkum’ purportedly written by her stated that harassment for additional dowry by her husband, Ramakrishna Reddy, mother-in-law, Suchitra and sister-in-law, Sukruta, were responsible for the deaths. Reddy was at his shop while his mother and sister went out on some work when the woman resorted to the extreme step.

Reddy found the main door of the house bolted from inside in the evening after returning from the shop. He broke open the doors with the help of neighbours and saw the bodies. Tension prevailed at their house on Road No. 11 as relatives and family members came to Reddy’s house on learning about the deaths and tried to attack him and his family members. The Banjara Hills police rushed to the spot and pacified the angry relatives and assured them of action against the accused.
