Constables thwart her attempt

HYDERABAD: A woman who came to attend a family counselling session allegedly attempted suicide in the Uppal police station on Wednesday.

S. Sunitha, 29, was brought to the family-counselling centre in connection with a dispute with her husband Sudhakar.

She was later taken back to the police station after she broke glass panes of a notice board at the centre following a quarrel.

When two women police constables tried to pacify her, Sunitha suddenly went into another room in the police station and tried to hang herself with her `chunni'.

However, the constables thwarted her attempts and rescued her. "We suspect Sunitha might have tried to end her life due to depression," Uppal Inspector A. Muthyam Reddy said.

He said the woman was admitted to the Institute of Mental Health at Erragadda with the permission of a magistrate. Police inquiries revealed that Sunitha was married to Sudhakar in December 2005 but differences cropped up between the couple within few months.
