‘Chenetha Chaitanya Yatra’ from May 27
Weavers’ Congress Andhra Pradesh, an organisation working to further the interests of the weaver community on Thursday, announced a ‘Chenetha Chaitanya Yatra’ from Uravakonda in Anantapur district on May 27, which will end at Mangalagiri in Guntur district on June 4.
The objective of the yatra is to improve awareness about the community and join hands to mount pressure on political parties to accord political recognition to members of the 16 castes in the Backward Classes, categorised as B.C. (B) who are weavers by profession, said K.A.N. Moorthy, president, Weavers’ Congress, A.P., at a meeting here.
Former Minister and present chairman of APCO, Murugudu Hanumantha Rao released ‘Chenetha Chaitanya Geetalu’, a compact disc containing songs, Balkonda MLA and Government Whip Anil Eravathri launched a website titled www.weaverscongressap.org, replete with content about the weavers’ movement.
All three regions of A.P. to be covered
Mr. Moorthy said that in a phased manner, all the three regions in the State of A.P. would be covered, with particular focus on Assembly constituencies that had a sizeable weavers’ population.
“Our sole political demand is to convince parties to field candidates from among weavers wherever the numbers are high,” he said.
